UNDERSTANDING RADIUS OF HOLLOW
A smaller Radius Ring (5/16", 3/8". 7/16") will cut deeper into the blade creating more bite. A larger Radius Ring (1-1/8", 1", 7/8") will not cut as deep, creating more glide.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT RADIUS OF HOLLOW
The most common Radius of Hollow is 1/2". Sparx recommends 1/2" for most youth players and increasing the radius (9/16", 5/8") as the player gets larger.

SPARX FIRE VS SPARX RADIUS
The Radius Ring produces a traditional "radius of hollow", which is recommended for most skates. The Fire Ring produces a flat-bottom cut with radius edges.

| Player Type / Weight / Style | Recommended ROH (Radius Ring) | Why this works |
|---|---|---|
| Youth / lightweight (< ~140 lbs / ~65 kg) / learning edges | ~½″ (0.50″) or perhaps 7/16″ if very edge-driven | Lighter players don’t press as hard into the ice, so they benefit from more bite to help stops/turns. The ½″ is a “safe” starting point. (Sparx Hockey Help Center) |
| Youth / intermediate / maybe stronger skater | ~½″ or 9/16″ (0.56″) | Slightly more glide but still good bite. As strength and speed increase, you may shift toward larger radius. |
| Adult/average weight (say 150-200 lbs / 70-90 kg) / all-around style | ~½″ to ~5/8″ (0.50″-0.625″) | Many adults use ½″ simply because it’s common and works. But if you value more glide (less fatigue, longer strides) you might go up to 5/8″. (Sparx Hockey) |
| Heavier player (>200 lbs / >90 kg) / power skater / defence or long strides | ~5/8″ or even ~3/4″ (0.625″-0.75″) | Heavier, strong players generate more pressure on their edges; a slightly flatter profile (larger radius) lets them glide more efficiently and not “over-bite”. The manufacturer says heavier players do well on 5/8″. (Sparx Hockey) |
| Skater who values extreme edge work (tight turns, quick stops, agility) | Smaller radius: 3/8″, 7/16″, ½″ | If you’re playing high pace, need strong edge engagement (e.g., forward who pivots quickly), a deeper hollow gives maximum “grab”. The trade-off is you might feel more fatigue/glide loss. |
| Skater who values maximum glide (long strides, skating primarily, less stop-start) | Larger radius: ¾″, 1″, 1-1/4″ | For long glide, power skating, older players who rely on momentum rather than quick edge changes — a flatter hollow helps. |
| Goalie | Typically 3/8″ to ½″ as a starting point, depending on preference | The FAQ from Sparx: “For Goalies: We suggest a 3/8″ to 1/2″ Radius Ring, depending on how much bite you want (smaller radius = more bite).” (Sparx Hockey Help Center) |

I messaged this seller a few questions about this product prior to ordering. His responses were almost immediate and very helpful. I purchased the Sparx 3D printed wheel holder.
It is AMAZING and works incredibly well. I will definitely be using this seller again for any future Sparx accessory needs!! A++++
Great product, easy seller to work with
Item arrived quickly and quality was good. Item arrived without cover and seller immediately reached out and sent a new one. He didn’t have to do that but did it anyway.
Thanks. Fits well. Excellent idea for a practical storage solution.
